Breast Augmentation - To Do or Not To - by Debbie Nicholson

Thousands of women each year have Breast Augmentation surgery done to heighten their figures and or improve their self -confidence. Some need to adjust a discrepancy between their two breasts. Others unfortunately just consent to it to make their partner's happy.  Women who wish to undergo this surgery need to consider a few things first:  Is breast size unbalanced? Is breast size to small or irregular to the body?  As with any surgery risks are involved:

Effects from the anesthesia Infection Bleeding and swelling Implants can interfere with detection of breast cancer in mammograms

The recovery period can vary from person to person. Most women will need assistance to care for themselves the first couple of days. Then they are usually fine. Unless they have small children then they may need help a little longer. Most women go back to work within a week's time.

There are usually three types of incisions used in the surgery. Underneath breast above crease, lower edge around circle of nipple, in the armpit. There are different shapes and textures of implants available.

The cost of this surgery differs from state to state. In general $3,000.00 to 9,000.00. The implants can start at $1,000.00 or more. Health Insurance Companies will not pay for this type of surgery. So remember you are paying for the complete bill.

If you chose to have this done finding a qualified surgeon is highly recommended. Find out if the surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Those who are have completed a minimum of 5 years surgical training, followed by medical school, including a plastic surgery residency program. They must then pass a comprehensive oral and written exam before certification will be issued.

It is strongly recommended that you decide on breast augmentation for your own reasons. Not influences of other's. It is advisable that you research any and all information first you can find on the subject. There are even forums where women who have had this surgery performed offer their views. With all information and facts in hand you should be able to make a wise and informative decision.
